XperienCentral R49

September 29, 2025

Release 49 (R49) is all about preparing for the upcoming launch of our new Rich Text Editor in R50. While the focus of this release has been on beta testing the editor, we’ve also delivered a range of improvements and fixes to make working in XperienCentral even smoother. And for the first time in years, no special upgrade steps are required. Upgrading to this version is as simple as it gets.

What's new?

Escrow Deposit – Added Assurance

To give our customers additional peace of mind, the XperienCentral source code has been placed in escrow with an independent organization (NCC Group). This means that in the unlikely event of a major disruption, participating customers will have access to the code needed to run a functioning XC environment.

The R48 deposit was successfully completed and approved by the escrow agent, underscoring both the reliability and the reproducibility of our software.

Key Fixes in R49

  • Default Styling Template Can Now Be Selected for Pages: In the Styling Templates screen, the “Default styling template” option did not behave as expected: while it worked when selecting a template for an element, it had no effect on pages. This has been fixed in R49 — you can now also select the default styling template for pages.
  • Discussion Selection on Content Item: Previously, after linking a discussion to a content item and saving, the field would still show “None,” making it seem as though nothing had changed. If you then made another change and saved again, the discussion link could even disappear entirely. In R49, the selected discussion is now displayed correctly immediately after saving.
  • HTML in aria-label attributes: The CMS now blocks accidental HTML inside aria-label values, in line with W3C specifications. This improves accessibility.
  • Selecting subform fragments: It’s no longer possible to select individual fragments of a subform from the main form, preventing accidental deletions. You can still select fragments within the subform itself.
  • Forms in the correct language: When selecting a form, only forms available in the same language as the content item are now shown.
  • Copying Modular Content Items: In some cases, when copying modular content items or elements that used a template with custom properties, the property values were not copied correctly. Changing a property in the copy could even change the value in the original.

In R49 this has been fixed: values of custom properties are now copied correctly, so you can safely edit a copy without affecting the original.

    Key Improvements in R49

      • Importing database references: Database references are now correctly imported along with content items, resulting in more complete imports and less manual cleanup.
      • “Show on” page for downloads: You can now specify on which page downloads appear — just like you already can for articles or images.
      • SEO tab for image-based modular content items: The SEO tab is now available for modular content items of type Image, making it easy to manage alternative URLs and other SEO properties.

Building a Strong Foundation for R50

R49 focuses on stability, ease of upgrade, and laying the groundwork for the new Rich Text Editor. With the escrow deposit complete and a range of fixes and improvements delivered, we’re building a strong foundation for R50.
